Based in Los Angeles, Russell Crotty has been an abstract painter, installation artist and in the 1990s began to focus on drawing. His early drawings were based on the many ink sketches he makes in journals, especially of surfers, but then switched to a fascination with astronomy, which has resulted in his globe drawings.
His art has been exhibited nationally and internationally including at Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve, Paris, France; Galerie Ulrike Schmela, Düsseldorf, Germany; La Criee Centre d’Art Contemporain, Rennes, France; Miami Art Museum, Miami, FL; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO; Hosfelt Gallery, San Francisco, CA; Laguna Art Museum, Laguna, CA; Katonah Museum of Art, Katonah, New York.
Crotty received a BFA (Honors) from San Francisco Art Institute in 1978 and an MFA from University of California, Irvine in 1980.
