A.L. Steiner (b.1967) is a Los Angeles based artist who uses constructions of photography, video, installation, collage, collaboration, writing, performance, and curatorial work as seductive tropes channeled through the sensibility of an activated cynical queer eco-feminist androgyne. In addition to her individual art practice, Steiner is involved with several collaborative activities, including the band Chicks on Speed, the curatorial partnership Ridykeulous (with painter Nicole Eisenman), and the organization WAGE (Working Artists in the Greater Economy), which she co-founded.
Her work has been exhibited at venues including the Tate Modern, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Sofia, the New Museum, MoMA PS1, REDCAT, the New Museum and the Centre Pompidou. Group exhibitions The New Modern Hair, The Pacific Design Center, Los Angeles, CA; Out Of Focus: Photography, Saatchi Gallery, London (2012); Jack Smith, Barbara Gladstone Gallery, New York, NY (2011); Dance with Camera, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Scottsdale, AZ (2011).
