Tomory is a L.A. based artist originally from Denver, Colorado. In 1998, he received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and earned his MFA at CalArts in 2004. His work has been shown at ACME in Los Angeles, Alison Jacques Gallery in London, CRG Gallery in New York City, Knoxville Museum of Art, Torrance Art Museum, Monica De Cardenas Gallery in Switzerland, and Taxter and Spengemann Gallery in New York City. Tomory’s work is apart of permanant collections at LACMA, OCMA, MoCA, The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, Yale University Art Gallery, and more. He works mostly in painting. Tomory’s painting is reminiscent of abstract expressionism containing gestural brushwork with a highly-tuned color sense. His paintings have much depth and quality that allude to old philosophies of painting with the edge and overlap within the paint and the strokes.
